How to Size a Wrestling Singlet

A singlet should fit like a second skin — snug, not baggy, and never restrictive. Here’s how to measure, choose youth vs. adult sizes, and nail the fit.

A wrestling singlet is meant to fit close to the body — snug like compression wear, with no loose fabric for an opponent to grab. Getting the size right is the difference between a uniform an athlete forgets they’re wearing and one that rides, sags, or restricts. Here’s how to measure and choose the right size the first time.

How a singlet should fit

  • Snug against the torso with no bunching or excess fabric.
  • Straps that stay on the shoulders without digging in.
  • Full range of motion — you can shoot, bridge, and sprawl freely.
  • The leg openings sit flat against the thigh, not gaping.
  • It feels like a second skin, not a squeeze.

How to measure

The most important measurement for a singlet is torso length — shoulder to crotch — because that’s what determines whether the straps and seat sit right. Height and weight get you in the ballpark; chest and torso dial it in.

  1. Height and weight — the starting point for any size chart.
  2. Chest — measure around the fullest part, under the arms.
  3. Torso length — from the top of the shoulder, down the front, through the crotch, and back up to the same shoulder.
  4. Compare against the size chart and, if you’re between two sizes, use torso length as the tiebreaker.

Youth vs. adult sizing

Youth singlets are cut shorter in the torso and narrower through the shoulders, so a small adult size is not the same as a large youth size. Growing athletes are often best in the size that fits the torso now — a singlet that’s too long in the body will sag no matter how tight the waist is.

Between two sizes?

  • Go by torso length first — a singlet that fits the body length will sit correctly.
  • Snugger is usually better than looser; the fabric has four-way stretch.
  • For a growing athlete, weigh a season of fit now against a little room to grow.

Custom singlets and sizing

Because our singlets are made to order, we can size a full roster from one team fitting or size chart — no guessing from a stock run. Order a single size or an entire team; there are no minimums, and every piece is cut and sublimated the same way.

Should a wrestling singlet be tight?

Yes. A singlet is designed to fit like compression wear — snug against the body so there’s no loose fabric to grab and nothing to ride up mid-match. It should still allow a full range of motion.

How do I measure for a singlet?

Take height, weight, chest, and — most importantly — torso length (shoulder, down the front, through the crotch, and back up to the shoulder). Match those to the size chart and use torso length as the tiebreaker between sizes.

What size should I get if I’m between two?

Choose by torso length. A singlet that fits your body length will sit correctly at the shoulders and seat, and the four-way-stretch fabric handles the rest — so the snugger size is usually the better call.

Do you offer youth singlet sizes?

Yes. Because every singlet is made to order, we cut youth and adult sizes to the right proportions rather than just scaling one pattern up or down.
